Bitter engage Super League rivals Hull FC and Hull KR have launched a joint bid to host matches at the 2013 World Cup.
The two sides have put aside their differences and joined the local council under the banner "Hull 2013: Twice the passion".
They hope their efforts will result in winning the right to host one of the semi-final matches at the KC Stadium.
Councillor Kalvin Neal said: "The city will be able to offer two world-class stadia, with the excellent facilities at the KC Stadium as well as the planned improvements to Craven Park."
As well as matches, Hull wants to be considered as a venue for training camps.
Incentive
Hull KR chief executive Mike Smith said: "The city is often divided when it comes to rugby league but the possibility of a World Cup 2013 semi-final being played in our great city is incentive enough for the whole city to get behind one common goal and back the bid."
Hull FC chief executive James Rule added: "With two professional teams and the largest network of amateur rugby league in the game, there is no better place to host a tournament of this magnitude and certainly a high profile game like a semi-final."
The next World Cup is being hosted jointly by England and Wales, with matches expected to be held in Wrexham and south Wales in October and November of 2013.
Wigan and Leigh have also launched a joint bid in conjunction with their local council, while Warrington, Bradford and Rochdale have publicly expressed their desire to act as hosts.
The deadline for submission of initial bids is April 15, with the Rugby Football League due to announce venues in the autumn.
