Simon Mannering will succeed Benji Marshall as New Zealand captain.

The 26-year-old, who has skippered New Zealand Warriors for the last three years, was unveiled at a press conference 24 hours after Marshall lost the captaincy.

Mannering's first Test as captain, and his 29th overall, will come in a one-off game against Australia in April.

And the 2008 World Cup winner will lead the side's campaign for a repeat victory in France and the UK this autumn.

He said: "It's a massive honour to even be considered for the role let alone to be chosen to lead your country."

Coach Stephen Kearney said: "He was the logical choice to step up as captain and we believe he can lead us now and into the future.

"He's a vastly-experienced player at both club and international level, he's heading into his fourth season as captain at the Warriors and you know he'll give you 100% every time."
