Castleford prop Andy Lynch has signed a one-year contract extension that will take him to the end of the 2016 season and past his 37th birthday.

The former Bradford and Hull FC forward had his testimonial match at the weekend, against the Bulls, and he has enjoyed a new lease of life since re-joining the Tigers just over 12 months ago.

He played a key role in their run to the Challenge Cup final and Super League play-offs last season.

"I am really pleased to have extended my stay here for another 12 months at least," Lynch said.

"I am happy with the way my rugby is going, so it was a simple decision.

"The club have helped me out with my testimonial in the past year and it just shows what a good club it is to be a part of.

"I think there is lots of quality in the squad this year and I do not see why we cannot have another strong campaign."

But Lynch, who turned 35 in October, is far from being the oldest player in Super League. Jamie Peacock (Leeds) and Adrian Morley (Salford) are still playing at the top level at the age of 37.
