Rugby League: Whitehaven sign Australian scrum-half Brett Seymour

Former Castleford Tigers scrum-half Brett Seymour is set to make his return to the game with Championship club Whitehaven.

The Australian was on the lookout for a new team after being released by the Tigers last month without playing a game for the Super League club.

The 29-year-old was released by Hull last year after crashing his car while suffering from depression and had hoped to get back into Super League with the Tigers after joining them for trials.

Fresh start

He was unable to force his way into the Castleford team, however, and will now re-launch his career in the Kingstone Press Championship after signing a 12-month contract with Whitehaven.

Chief executive Barry Richardson said: "We've signed him subject to a successful visa application. We've been working on it and hopefully it will only take another two to three weeks.

"We've two young half-backs and we felt we needed a bit of experience as well as competition for places and, when we knew Brett was available, we thought he would be an outstanding signing for us."
