Three late tries from Castleford took some of the shine off Huddersfield's 40-24 victory, according to their coach Paul Anderson.

The Giants scored five tries in a blistering 17-minute first-half spell to lead 28-6 at half-time. Winger Jermaine McGillvary bagged two tries and skipper Danny Brough kicked six goals as the Giants built a 40-6 lead but bottom side Castleford staged a late fightback, scoring 18 points in the final three minutes.

"The closing stages definitely took off some of the gloss although I thought we were the better team throughout," said Anderson."

"Castleford asked us questions and for 10 to 15 minute spell at the end we basically put the cue on the rack and gave in and just doing enough was sufficient.

"I'd told our players that Castleford have got a history recently of scoring a flurry of points and we allowed them to do it again. We've got to be better than that but we've won.

"You can't forget that the players have just come off the Easter programme. If you look at our game today and I'm sure there will be a few more tomorrow when there's going to be some points scored because there's going to be some tired people out there.

Truth

"It's not an excuse, it's the truth. We could have been better but we got two points and I'm happy because it keeps us where we want to be.

"We lost the energy battle towards the end but we racked up some points and we should probably have scored more."

Tigers coach Ian Millward said: "We probably made more clean breaks than we have in a lot of games but the composure was lacking and that's what happens when you are on a losing run.

"The players tried hard in the second half but it's not about trying hard. We want to turn that into being a more consistent team."

The Giants scored two of their five first-half tries while Tigers stand-off Rangi Chase was in the sin-bin for dissent.

"Rangi told me he didn't swear or do anything but it's very hard for me to comment when I've only heard what Rangi has had to say," Millward said

Meanwhile Millward reported that Nathan Massey suffered a suspected dislocated knee.
