Ian Millward: players adapting to the way he wants them to play

New Castleford coach Ian Millward is seeing plenty of positive signs as the Tigers prepare for the start of the Super League season next month.

His side ran in six tries to four against Huddersfield for a 32-22 victory to follow up their Boxing Day friendly win over Bradford.

"I thought it was a good hit-out for both teams," said Millward. "The main thing for us is that we've no injuries.

"All the tries we conceded were from kicks apart from the last one so that was really pleasing. We held our line pretty well.

"They are still coming to grips with the way I want us to play but you have to be pleased with some of the things we did.

"I still think we'll be rusty come the first couple of games but I really like the way the guys are going about their business. Everything is really positive."

Giants coach Nathan Brown added: "There was some good and some bad. We made a lot of changes to the way we play and at times when we got it right we looked threatening.

"The disappointment was the defence which we will need to do a lot of work on. They've got some blokes that can cause us some problems."
