Castleford ran in six tries on their way to a 32-22 victory over Huddersfield in a pre-season friendly at the Probiz Coliseum.

Winger Jermaine McGillvary scored two tries for the Giants, who twice held the lead, but Castleford finished the stronger side in front of a crowd of 2,542.

The Tigers, fielding all four close-season signings, started the brighter and established a 10-0 lead inside 11 minutes thanks to tries from former Huddersfield hooker Ryan Hudson and skipper Danny Orr, plus a goal from Kirk Dixon.

The Giants need a stroke of good fortune to get a foothold in the game, Danny Brough pouncing on a careless offload from Tigers' former Leigh prop Steve Nash to score a 60-metre breakaway try.

Brough added the goal and hoisted a high kick which set up the position for centre Joe Wardle to grab a second try on 33 minutes which edged the visitors in front.

Castleford regained the lead on the stroke of half-time through second-rower Oliver Holmes but Huddersfield drew level within two minutes of the restart when McGillvary won the race to Brough's clever kick to the corner.

Purple patch

The immaculate Brough converted from the touchline to make it 18-16 but the Tigers struck a purple patch to go back in front.

The lead changed hands for the third time on the hour when second-rower Lee Mitchell went 40 metres for a try after being put into a gap by Orr and then Rangi Chase wrong-footed Lee Gilmour to score a solo try.

Dixon kicked his third goal to open up an eight-point lead, at which point coach Ian Millward withdrew his experienced half-backs Orr and Chase.

Huddersfield grabbed a lifeline with McGillvary's second try but the home side had the final say when lively hooker Daryl Clark scored a sixth try and substitute Ryan Shaw kicked the conversion.
