Wigan are reportedly poised to announce the capture of Wales rugby union international Andy Powell from Sale Sharks.

The Warriors have called what they say is "an important press conference" for Tuesday at the DW Stadium where chairman Ian Lenagan is expected to confirm the signing of 31-year-old Powell.

Earlier this month, Sharks director of rugby Steve Diamond revealed that Powell had rejected a new contract offer in order to move to Wigan on a three-year deal, something the Super League club refused to comment on.

Powell, who toured South Africa with the British and Irish Lions in 2009 and won the last of his 23 caps for Wales in February 2012, could join Wigan immediately.

At Wigan he would be working under Wales national head coach Iestyn Harris, who is assistant to Warriors boss Shaun Wane.

Hock & Mossop moving on

Meanwhile, Wigan are also expected to announce the departure of England forwards Gareth Hock and Lee Mossop to NRL side Parramatta at the end of the season.

The Eels agreed personal terms with Hock last summer only to see the proposed transfer collapse at the last minute.

The 29-year-old second row has spent this season on loan at Widnes.

According to reports in Australia, Eels recruitment manager Peter Nolan flew to England earlier this month to watch 24-year-old prop Mossop make his comeback from a dislocated shoulder in Wigan's 36-6 win at Bradford and negotiate a transfer fee with Lenagan for both men.
