Widnes Vikings' Jon Clarke has extended his contract with the Super League club until the end of the 2014 season.
Head coach Denis Betts is delighted to have secured his captain, who joined the club in 2011, for another year.
"Jon has been our best player by far all season and he is leading the team around really well and offers us so much on the field," he said.
"Now he's settled into life at Widnes, what we are now seeing are the reasons why we brought him here in the first place.
"He's been inspirational for us this year and his form has probably been some of the best he has displayed since his time spent as part of the England set-up.
Having represented Great Britain at Academy level, Clarke wore the Great Britain shirt at full international level for the first time in 2007.
"I'm delighted to extend my contract for another 12 months and equally as pleased that my body is allowing me to prolong my career and carry on playing with the Vikings," he added.
"Hopefully we can kick-on again for the remainder of this season and improve even further next year."
