Kevin Brown will make his Widnes debut in front of the Sky cameras on Saturday when the Vikings take on Hull FC at the Halton Stadium.

Stand-off Brown joined the club on a three-year deal but has missed the first four rounds of the 2013 campaign due to an ankle injury picked up in training.

"He's a great pro and it's testament to how hard he's worked that's come back in such great shape."

However the 29-year-old - who announced last May he was leaving Huddersfield Giants for family reasons - is now fit to take his place in Widnes' squad for the clash with the Black and Whites this weekend.

"Kev is ready to go and he'll be in the 19-man squad," Vikings coach Denis Betts confirmed.

"He likes the pressure but he's not played for six months and he's only come back into the team environment in the last two weeks.

"I'm really wary that the expectations on him could go through the roof. Everybody is expecting so much from him and we're trying to temper that a little bit."

Betts has been impressed with Brown's contribution already, insisting he has been "fantastic" to have around the club.

"He's a dominant half," he added. "He knows what he wants and how to get it and he makes people better players.

"He's a great pro and it's testament to how hard he's worked that's come back in such great shape.

"He's been fantastic to have around the place even when he's not been involved on game day."

Widnes are also likely to hand a first start to Gareth Hock, having previously used their other big-name recruit from the bench. Prop Ben Cross is available again after serving a suspension for a high shot on St Helens' Paul Wellens.

Competition

Meanwhile, Brown could be be in direction competition against Daniel Holdsworth - a half-back who Widnes actually attempted to sign when he was at Salford.

"I approached Daniel when we first came into the competition because I rated him highly," Betts said of the Australian, who missed Hull's home loss to Warrington last time out due to concussion.

"We were looking at half-backs and I think his kicking game is second to none in the competition.

"We thought he could do a good job here for us, that he could be that half-back that could make us a good unit.

"I feel fortunate that it didn't come off because I ended up finding other options and, given the choice, I'd go for Kevin every time because of my history with him.

"I didn't think he'd be available to be honest."
