Widnes Vikings full-back Shaun Briscoe is targeting a return to action in Sunday's visit of St Helens to the Halton Stadium.
The 29-year-old underwent surgery in the off-season and missed last weekend's 28-14 success over the London Broncos - the Vikings' first win in a Super League season-opener in six attempts.
Injury also played a major part in 2012 for the ex-Hull KR, Hull FC and Wigan Warriors man as he was restricted to just eight appearances in his debut campaign for the club.
Briscoe admits his desire to return early ultimately backfired, a lesson he has now learned, and he is hoping to make amends this time around by impressing this season.
"Last year was the worst of my career by far for injuries and although I only had two, they were serious ones," he told the club's official website.
"In my desperation to play I probably came back too soon on both occasions and made them worse.
"As disappointed as I was to miss out on selection for the game (last Sunday), I know it's going to be a long season and I know I can play a big role after last year's disappointment.
"Saints will be smarting after the game at weekend so we need a big performance to get the points. I'm hoping to be part of it and be back on the field with the lads."
