Stefan Marsh: Given two-year Vikings deal
Wigan backs Stefan Marsh and Joe Mellor have been signed on permanent deals by Widnes, having spent much of the 2012 campaign on loan with the Vikings.
Marsh, a 22-year-old centre, appeared 23 times for the Vikings in their first season back in the Super League and Mellor, a 21-year-old stand-off, has had a pair of loan stints with the Stobart Stadium side, playing in 25 games.
The duo have now signed two-year contracts, to the delight of Widnes coach Denis Betts.
"We were always hopeful we could retain Stefan," said Betts. "Despite having an option to remain at Wigan, he has really enjoyed his time at Widnes.
"He's a strike centre and, while we've been really pleased with how he has performed so far, we realise there's plenty more to come from him.
"Joe found his Super League opportunities limited at Wigan but, from day one, his attitude and application at Widnes have been outstanding.
"He is a committed person and a quality professional, who leaves no stone unturned in his preparation and takes nothing for granted on the field.
"With all of our bodies fit and healthy next year, I'll have plenty of cover in the half back positions, which is a great headache to have."
Former Wigan prop Ben Davies and his fellow front man Alex Gerrard have also been handed new one-year Widnes contracts.
