Hull KR have given a senior squad place to a 14-year-old who is recovering from a blood clot on the brain that threatened his life.

Connor Lynes, who plays as a second row for the Lambwath Lions, collapsed a day after playing in a league game and was left fighting for his life in hospital.

He will have the unique honour of officially being part of the squad and will be listed in the club’s matchday programme and website alongside his first team heroes.

The teenager will also deliver the match ball to referee Joe Cobb on the pitch ahead of Thursday's First Utility Super League clash against the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

"We're delighted to add Connor to our squad," said coach Chris Chester, who joked it had been a tough few weeks of negotiations with his new squad member.

"In all seriousness, we wanted to do something above and beyond for Connor who has had a tough time of it recently.

"Myself, Willie Poching and some of the boys all visited him when he was in hospital and it’s fantastic to see he is on the road to recovery.

"We’ve gone through the same procedure we would when we sign any player so he is now fully registered as an official member of my squad."
