Wigan coach Shaun Wane has confirmed hooker Logan Tomkins will be eligible to play for loan club Salford Red Devils against the Warriors.
Tomkins will spend the rest of the season on loan at the AJ Bell Stadium but will make a swift return to Wigan when the two sides meet in the Super League on June 18.
Previous loan deals have prevented such occurrences, notably the acrimonious deal that took Gareth Hock from Wigan to Widnes in 2013.
Wane has confirmed he is happy for Tomkins to face his parent club though, with the loan move seen as part of the player’s overall development, after he also spent last season on loan at Salford.
"He can play. The Gaz Hock thing a couple of years ago was organised in the directors' room, nothing to do with me,” said Wane.
“Logan can play. I won't start telling players he can't play against us.
"I wanted him to play at a high level. It is the best thing for Logan. I am not trying to help anybody (another club) out.
"It is simply to make sure Logan plays at a high standard. It suits us and Logan down to the ground."
Meanwhile, Wane expects first-choice hooker Michael McIlorum to be fit for Friday's derby clash with St Helens at Langtree Park after he was forced off in last week’s win at Huddersfield with a leg injury.
"He will be fit. He wanted to go back on in that game,” added Wane.
“He has not spoken to me all week because it was Lockers' (Sean O'Loughlin's) 350th game and he wanted to go back on, but there was no need."
Prop Dom Crosby is also back in contention after being left out at the John Smith's Stadium as a precaution.
