Shaun Wane declared himself "very proud" of his Wigan Warriors team after they overcame fierce rivals St Helens 12-4 in a bruising encounter at the DW Stadium.
Wigan made the perfect start in front of a raucous home crowd to take the lead through Dom Manfredi’s first minute try.
Saints responded through Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook, but Wigan held firm before Joe Burgess sealed the win with 10 minutes left on the clock.
"I'm very proud, I thought it was a great performance," Wane said. "It was a tough game and I thought it was refereed perfectly.
“You had both teams slugging into each other and he allowed it to happen. Both teams are busted and I thought both were equally matched.
“They stayed with us for a long time and that's what made it enjoyable. Our defence really impressed me and to do it against a class team makes me really happy."
Victory extended Wigan’s impressive record over the Easter period since Wane joined the club in 2010.
Including games either side of the traditional Easter double-header, the Warriors have now won each of the 22 matches since Wane’s arrival.
"I'm really happy with that record," said Wane. "I want us to go 24 out of 24."
To achieve that, Wigan must get the better of Salford on Monday and see off Catalans Dragons a week later.
