Huddersfield Giants' Eorl Crabtree believes that the Super League leaders will need to guard against complacency when they face Salford City Reds at the John Smith's Stadium on Sunday.

The Giants are big favourites to claim their 18th league win of the season by beating the City Reds but Brian Noble's men have become something of a bogey side for them in recent times.

"We'll be preparing this week as if it's a Grand Final, because we know we'll need to be at our best"

Crabtree, 30, feels that Salford may revel in their status of underdogs and is confident he and his teammates will be focused ahead of their clash with the Super League strugglers, knowing a win would keep Huddersfield top of the table.

Prepared

"Salford have become a bit of a bogey side," he said. "There's no way we'll be complacent.

"We'll be preparing this week as if it's a Grand Final, because we know we'll need to be at our best.

"No-one expected Salford to beat us at last year's Magic Weekend, but they did, and no-one expected them to beat us at their place this Easter, but they did."

The England front-rower believes the Giants only need to look at their last Super League outing to see what can happen if they fail to perform. Paul Anderson's men almost let a 36-4 half-time lead slip against Castleford before rallying to win 48-32.

"All the warning signs are there if we let our standards slip, like we did in the second half of our last game against Castleford," said Crabtree.

"If we play like that then Salford could beat us, it's as simple as that. All our focus is on making sure there's no repeat."
