St Helens coach Nathan Brown has warned his players they must be on their game from the kick-off when they face his former side Huddersfield on Monday night.

Saints have lost five of their last six Super League matches and have dropped out of the play-off positions ahead of the trip to the John Smith's Stadium.

That has caused alarm bells to ring and Brown is seeking a drastic improvement against the club he left last season after three-and-a-half years in West Yorkshire.

"We have had some very ugly starts," said Brown.

"Sometimes you can be playing very well and still be down 10-0 but we have allowed some sides to get across the line too quickly too easily.

"We need to be making it harder for the opposition to get 10 or 12 up. That is the key.

"If we get that bit right I am sure those things will improve."

Brown enjoyed a largely successful tenure with the Giants but, having confirmed he would be leaving to move to Langtree Park this season, his spell at Huddersfield came to a premature end after they lost eight out of 10 matches.

That might leave the Australian with a point to prove to his former employers but Giants half-back Luke Robinson insists there will be no room for sentiment from the hosts.

"Generally I think you play a bit harder against your mates because you want to get one over on them so hopefully that will be the case," said Robinson.

"We can't be focusing on Nathan Brown or St Helens, we need to just be concentrating on ourselves and making sure that we play to the best of our ability."
