Bradford Bulls have parted company with head coach Francis Cummins and assistant coach Lee St Hilaire with immediate effect.

Cummins and St Hilaire have paid the price for Bradford’s dismal form as Sunday’s 46-18 defeat at Salford ensured the Super League club stayed eight points from safety, with just 11 matches remaining.

Skipper Matt Diskin has agreed to act as temporary player-coach ahead of Friday’s visit of Hull Kingston Rovers, under the guidance of managing director Steve Ferres

A spokesperson for the club’s board of directors said: “This is a decision which has not been made lightly and Bradford Bulls would like to thank both Francis and Lee for their efforts over the years.

“Both have worked under difficult circumstances during their time here, but the club recognises that a change of direction is required.

“The board of directors has the upmost respect for both Francis and Lee and wish them well with their futures.”

Having arrived at the club as Mick Potter’s assistant in 2010, Cummins was promoted to head coach prior to the start of last season.

St Hilaire has spent eight years with the club, serving as assistant coach and head coach during that spell.

The Bulls narrowly missed out on the play-offs in 2013, but suffered a major setback ahead of this campaign when they were docked six points for going into administration.

Bradford last week failed in their appeal over the points deduction, leaving them as overwhelming favourites to join London in the Kingstone Press Championship in 2015.

Former coach Brian Noble, who was sacked by Salford earlier this year, is likely to be linked with a return as the club attempt to find a replacement.
