Francis Cummins is the Bradford Bulls' new head coach as successor to the departing Mick Potter.

The former Leeds Rhinos winger had been the Australian's right-hand man at Odsal for the past two seasons.

Cummins has signed a three-year deal and will be tasked with getting the Super League club back into the play-offs.

Bradford finished three points outside this season's top eight, although they were deducted six points for entering administration.

"It's an honour for me to be the head coach of the Bradford Bulls."
Francis Cummins Quotes of the week

Cummins, along with the rest of the club's coaching staff were made redundant in July, although they continued working without pay.

"It's an honour for me to be the head coach of the Bradford Bulls," he said on Sky Sports.

"We've had a really tough year. I think it made us as a group. It helped me in my education as a coach.

"I'm looking forward to taking the next step in these young men's careers. We need to improve the group. I can't wait."

The 35-year-old spent 12 years as a player with Leeds before joining the Rhinos' coaching staff.

Bulls' honorary chairman Gerry Sutcliffe has no qualms going with Potter's recommendation after he gave his backing to Cummins.

"We had no hesitation going with Mick's recommendation in offering the job to Francis," he said. "We're delighted he's accepted.

"We have a fantastic opportunity to develop this club in the way we want off the field. We want Francis to do that on the field."
