Hull kicked off their Super League XX campaign in impressive style as they beat Huddersfield 19-0.

Full-back Jamie Shaul went over twice for Hull with Fetuli Talanoa also crossing the whitewash, while new signing Marc Sneyd added a drop goal to his three conversions.

Sneyd's new half-back partner Leon Pryce and Australian forward Mark Minichiello also played their part as Hull cruised to their first win at the John Smith's Stadium for six years as the Giants failed to score for the first time since the 2011 play-offs .

With only one trial game in pre-season, Huddersfield were clearly under-done and new signings Jack Hughes, Craig Huby and Jamie Ellis all failed to make an impression on their debuts.

The Giants' only threat came from the towering kicks of captain Danny Brough that swirled in the stiff breeze but Hull coped admirably with their limited attacking capabilities.

Huddersfield showed signs of emerging from their lethargy late in the game but their only scoring chance came when England second rower Brett Ferres lost the ball trying to reach the line.

Castleford 22-24 Wakefield

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats fought back from 22-6 down to beat local rivals Castleford 24-22 at The Mend-A-Hose Jungle.

Castleford looked to be well in control thanks to a brace of tries from Denny Solomona, Justin Carney and Luke Gale – who also kicked three conversions.

However, with 22 minutes remaining the Wildcats responded with Pita Godinet, Ali Lauitiiti and Danny Washbrook adding to Paul McShane’s first-half score.

Craig Hall kicked all four conversions for a dramatic win.
