Zak Hardaker says he would like the uncertainty over his immediate future to be decided ‘for the sake of my family.’

The 22-year-old Leeds full-back is currently being investigated for an alleged homophobic comment made during a match against St Helens.

Hardaker has already served a five-match ban for an earlier offence, after being found guilty of directing homophobic comments at referee James Child, and he is yet to be notified if he faces another charge.

I can deal with people giving me a load of jip. When I played at Wigan I got booed every time I touched the ball and that didn't bother me too much. But my mum's not that keen on it.

It is now over two weeks since the alleged second offence was made and Hardaker would like the authorities to come to a decision.

On Monday, Hardaker was named at full-back in the 2014 Super League Dream Team and if he faces a further charge – and then found guilty – he may be given as much as an eight-match ban that would rule him out of England's Four Nations campaign.

Leeds have stood by their player, accusing the Rugby Football League of a ‘witchhunt’ and Hardaker says the whole episode is having a detrimental effect on his family.

He said: "I've not got a clue what is happening. I was investigated last week and that's about as much as I've heard.

"Personally, I don't think they've got enough evidence to do it because, if they did, they would have got me two or three weeks ago, wouldn't they?

"I would rather they just come out and say 'come to Red Hall, we've got this, this and this', and try and charge me or say they haven't got enough evidence because it's hanging over me.

“It's hanging over the club and, most importantly, it's hanging over my family.

"I can deal with people giving me a load of jip. When I played at Wigan I got booed every time I touched the ball and that didn't bother me too much.

"But my mum's not that keen on it. I would just rather it be sorted and be over and done with because it's no good for anyone."

An RFL spokesman declined to comment due to the ongoing investigation.
