Leeds and England captain Kevin Sinfield believes the standard in Super League will improve dramatically this year as a result of Britain hosting the 2013 World Cup.

The 32-year-old, who recently won the Golden Boot award for the world's best player, will skipper England as they look to break the southern hemisphere's 38-year dominance of the global tournament.

He will also lead the Rhinos as they aim to win a third successive Super League Grand Final and World Club Challenge title.

"Hopefully 2013 will be the year. It will be a huge shot in the arm for everyone involved in rugby league if we can bring that (World Cup) trophy home."

"2013 is going to be a huge year for British rugby league," Sinfield told Sky Sports News. "To have a home World Cup is huge for everybody.

"I think the standards in Super League will go through the roof this year, partly because of the carrot that is dangling for all English players - to play in the World Cup.

"Hopefully 2013 will be the year. It will be a huge shot in the arm for everyone involved in rugby league if we can bring that (World Cup) trophy home."

Sinfield is feeling positive about the upcoming Super League season, with Leeds beginning their title defence with a home game against Hull.

"Preparations are going really well," admitted Sinfield. "We've had a shortened pre-season because of international duties and we've just come back from a warm-weather camp in Portugal, which was fantastic. I'm really looking forward to it and we're ready.

"When you play for Leeds, everyone tries to come and get you. There are so many strong teams now and many of them have recruited well. Hull have done really well and will be a big threat this year but hopefully we'll get off to a good start."
