Leeds Rhinos half-back Danny McGuire hopes to play beyond the new two-year contract extension he recently signed at Headingley.

Last week the 29-year-old put pen-to-paper on fresh terms that will keep him with the reigning Super League champions through until the end of the 2015 campaign.

Super League's all-time leading try scorer is keen to play on for as long as possible and is already looking forward to the start of the Rhinos' title defence next season.

"With sports science players are able to play that little bit longer, so I hope I've got a few more years on the back of that (new contract)," he told Sky Sports.

"I'm proud to have played for such a long time at this club. I signed when I was 13. It's been a good few years now. I still there there's a lot of improvement in me as a player as well."

Leeds kick off in 2013 at home to Hull FC, a team which many are predicting to have an improved side after landing the likes of Daniel Holdsworth and Paul Johnson, along with recruiting England international Gareth Ellis.

Ellis spent three years with Leeds until 2009 and McGuire believes Peter Gentle is amassing a squad capable of challenging the likes of Leeds, Warrington, Wigan and St Helens this coming season.

"It's an interesting fixture that one. I'm obviously good pals with Gaz Ellis as well, so that makes it a little bit more interesting as well," he continued.

"Hull look a real team this year. They are talking as though they are going to be up there and I think they will be. I think they will be up there competing with the top four from last season."
