Hull have granted Australian stand-off Jordan Rankin compassionate leave to return home but he is expected to miss only two Super League matches.
The 22-year-old, who is in his first season with the Black and Whites, flew back home this week for a family funeral, while he will also take the opportunity to attend his sister's wedding.
The club say Rankin is due back next weekend, meaning he will miss their next two games, against Wakefield and Warrington.
"We've been aware of the situation for a number of weeks now and it has been a distraction for Jordan," said Hull coach Lee Radford.
"Sadly, he received bad news this week and we felt it was right to grant him leave to return to Australia to be with his close family.
"By coincidence, his sister is also getting married this week, so it is a good opportunity for Jordan to spend some time with his family and come back to Hull in a few days time refocused on his rugby.
"He will be back with the squad next weekend and everyone at the club has passed on their best wishes to him and his family at this difficult time."
