Peter Gentle: Hull coach eager to return to action
Hull coach Peter Gentle has revealed both he and his players cannot wait to return to action as they enjoy a brief break over the festive period.
The Black and Whites' squad have been in pre-season training at the club's Elite Performance Centre and they will fly out to Tenerife next week to continue their preparations for the new season.
Their opening friendly is against Castleford on 13 January and they will then take on neighbours Hull KR and York City Knights before starting their league campaign with a trip to defending champions Leeds.
Hull finished sixth in the final Super League table last term but bowed out of the play-offs after a 24-12 preliminary semi-final defeat at Warrington.
"We're a little bit impatient to get started again really. We are still disappointed with the way our season ended last year, but it was probably a fair indication of where we were at that time."
Gentle told the club's official website: "We're a little bit impatient to get started again really. We are still disappointed with the way our season ended last year, but it was probably a fair indication of where we were at that time.
"It proved to us that we have to work harder to achieve our ambitions and we've made a really good start on that front in pre-season.
"Nobody sees what happens in the winter but it's where we build the foundations for the year ahead and we've had a terrific off season, we really have.
"We have a great base to work from now and everybody has put in the hard yards to lay the groundwork for us to hopefully kick on from here."
