Relegation-threatened Wakefield have taken their tally of new recruits to four this week with the addition of Jordan Tansey and Anthony Walker.

Former Castleford Tigers utility back Tansey has signed an 18-month contract which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2016 season.

Tansey, 28, began his career with Leeds in 2006 before moving to Australian NRL side Sydney Roosters three years later and also had spells in Super League with Crusaders and Hull before joining Castleford ahead of the 2013 season.

Wakefield chairman Michael Carter said: "I am delighted to welcome Jordan to the club. He will provide a genuine competition across all of our back players.

"I would also like to thank Castleford Tigers and chief executive Steve Gill for their cooperation in making this move possible. Relations between the two rival clubs off the field have never been better."

Tigers coach Daryl Powell said: "It has been tough recently for Jordan to break into the first team and this opportunity for him to go to Wakefield has come at the perfect time.

"While we have Ben Roberts and Luke Dorn fit again, playing for Wakefield will give Jordan the ideal opportunity to get game time, and I wish him all the best for the rest of the season."

Tansey will link up with Brian Smith’s squad alongside Walker who signed from St Helens for an undisclosed fee in a bid to gain more regular first-team football.

During the 2014 Super League season, a campaign curtailed by injury for the Wales international, Tansey made just eight appearances for the Saints.

On his departure, St Helens chief executive Mike Rush said: “It's always hard when a player who has come through the system here leaves the club.

“Anthony is a hard working player but has found chances limited in a squad that has a number of forwards. We wish him all the best at Wakefield and we will be keeping an eye on how he progresses.”

Earlier this week Wildcats coach Smith added Michael Sio and Kevin Locke to his squad in a bid to retain the club's Super League status for next season.
