Wakefield Wildcats prop Nick Scruton will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery to reconstruct the ligaments in his thumb.

The 29-year-old former Bradford Bulls and Leeds Rhinos man has opted to have the surgery this week in order to ensure he is fully fit for pre-season.

Scruton becomes the second player to miss the remainder of the 2014 Super League campaign after Matt Ryan underwent shoulder reconstruction.

"I gave my all this year and I can walk away and be proud."
Richard Moore

Just as with Ryan, Scruton has played on with the injury during the year but with Webster looking ahead to 2015, the decision was taken for the surgery to take place before the end of the year to allow the prop to be fit for the gruelling pre-season schedule.

Mutual consent

Meanwhile, Wakefield have confirmed former Leeds Rhino Richard Moore, who had been on a one-year contract, has left the club by mutual consent.

The 32-year-old made 15 Super League appearances, taking his total in Wildcats colours to 107 following his first spell between 2007 and 2010.

"Thanks for all the kind messages," Moore wrote on his Twitter account. "I gave my all this year and I can walk away and be proud.

"Wakefield will be a special place in my memory. I know all the lads love playing at home. You (the fans) make that place."

Head coach James Webster hopes to be able to call upon Scott Anderson, who is had been struggling with a calf injury for Friday’s game against St Helens.

Dean Collis, Pita Godinet and Daniel Smith are all back in training after their respective knee injuries.
