Wakefield Wildcats have confirmed the signing of Parramatta Eels forward Matt Ryan on a two-year deal.

The towering 25-year-old joins on the back of making 24 NRL appearances and scoring four tries for the Eels in the last two seasons.

Ryan, who now awaits a successful visa application before joining, was convinced to make the Super League switch following talks with head coach Richard Agar.

"I've only had two seasons of first grade so Super League wasn't something I'd really considered but the chance to go to a new country and experience a different lifestyle and competition is an awesome opportunity."

"It's pretty exciting," Ryan told the club's official website. "It came as a bit of a shock to get the chance to come over but I jumped at the opportunity.

Won over

"I spoke to Richard Agar and he said that he'd seen a few of my games and he wanted to give players the chance to show their talents. He pretty much won me over straight away."

Ryan kept tabs on the Rugby League World Cup and is he looking forward to playing a more expansive game in England.

"It's a more open game over there and everyone loves playing attacking footy," he continued. "I watched a lot of the World Cup games and some of the skills on show from the Super League players in the different nations were outstanding.

"I spoke to a couple of players that were involved and they spoke about how close the crowd is to the pitch and the noise they make so I'm really excited to play in front of fans like that."

Agar added: "He's a big guy who has the ability to play on the edges or as a middle player. He's a tremendous attacking player, has good footwork, can offload and will bring a real physical presence to our pack."
