Salford have signed prop Darrell Griffin on loan from Leeds, but an ambitious bid for half-back Rangi Chase was rejected by Castleford.
Griffin originally turned down an offer to join the Reds on a temporary basis but has changed his mind and signed up for the next month.
The 31-year-old, who is a former Wakefield, Huddersfield and England forward, was part of the Rhinos' Grand Final-winning team but has failed to force his way into Brian McDermott's plans this season.
Castleford coach Ian Millward has revealed that the City Reds also tried to sign Chase and he praised chairman Jack Fulton for rejecting the bid.
"If he was looking at bailing out and getting in some money it would have been
easy to say 'Dr Koukash come and get my man and give me a bundle of money' but he said 'go away we're not interested'," said Millward.
"That tells you what we're trying to do and how genuine and how good our chairman has been for us."
Salford head coach Phil Veivers has already added several players to the roster for next season - with Vic Mauro and Liam Foran from Manly Sea Eagles securing deals.
Griffin will train with his new team-mates for the first time on Thursday and may go straight into the side to face Hull KR at the City of Salford Stadium on Sunday.
