St Helens coach Keiron Cunningham has been fined £500 by the Rugby Football League for publicly criticising a referee.

Cunningham berated the performance of James Child after his side's 33-26 Super League defeat by Catalans Dragons in Perpignan on May 9.

He was found guilty by an independent RFL operational rules tribunal of improper conduct and was deemed to have breached the RFL's Respect Policy.

Half the fine has been suspended until the end of the season and Cunningham, who has 14 days to appeal, was warned over his future conduct.

Coaches Laurent Frayssinous (Catalans Dragons) and James Lowes (Bradford) were both fined in March for publicly criticising referees.
