Club Call: St Helens pick Catalan Dragons and Wigan will face Warrington

St Helens will play Catalan Dragons for a place in the Grand Final after making their Club Call selection live on Sky Sports.

Saints chairman Eamonn McManus made his pick after the French side shocked Huddersfield 18-16 at the John Smith's Stadium - they received the honour of Club Call selection after winning the League Leaders' Shield.

The other semi-final will pit the Warrington Wolves, who Saints could also have chosen to face, against their local rivals the Wigan Warriors.

McManus briefly gave Sky Sports rugby league presenters Mike Stevenson and Eddie Hemmings a shock when he said: "There's a lot to take into consideration. Current form, league position, injuries and it was genuinely a difficult decision.

"A lot of thought and analysis has gone into it. but speaking to the coaching staff and the senior players we have chosen Warrington...to play Wigan!

"They enjoy each other's company and we didn't want to deprive them of that so St Helens will be playing Catalan Dragons and I think they will be two great semi-finals.

"Catalan are a very, very good side. They beat Leeds last week, they beat Huddersfield tonight and they are in a rich vein of form at the end of the season, strong all over the park. We will have to be at our best to beat them."

Before the announcement was made, Dragons coach Laurent Frayssinous said: "I don't mind the opposition, it's about us."

The clash will rekindle memories of the Dragons' 34-32 win at Langtree Park in 2012 when winger Daryl Millard finishing off a sparkling handling move to score a last-minute try that tied the scores and Scott Dureau kept his nerve to land the touchline conversion.

Watch St Helens take on Catalan Dragons on Thursday, live on Sky Sports 1 from 7:30pm.

Wigan's home clash with Warrington will be on Sky Sports 2 on Friday from 7:30pm.
