Former St Helens and Great Britain star Dave Chisnall has passed away at the age of 64 after a battle with cancer.

The prop, who also represented Leigh and Warrington during a glittering career, was the youngest of a sporting family - Les and Eric also played professional rugby league and eldest John was a boxer.

A St Helens spokesman said: "Everyone at Saints would like to pass on their sympathies at this sad time."

Chisnall toured Australia in 1970 with Great Britain and played in the World Cup later the same year before winning five cups for England in 1975.

Although he missed out on Leigh's famous Challenge Cup win over Leeds in 1971 due to suspension, but was back at Wembley's three years later to inspire Warrington to a win over Featherstone.

Two more Cup final appearances followed before his career began to wind down - brief spells at Swinton and Barrow preceding a return to Warrington, where he hung up his boots in 1982.
