Wigan coach Shaun Wane took some positives despite his side suffering their first Super League defeat of the season against Hull KR.

The Warriors went down 22-20 at the KC Lightstream Stadium and Wane admitted they had suffered a little bit for their exertions in the World Club Series last week.

Hull KR fought back against Wigan to pick up their first win of the Super League season.

Wigan went down in extra-time to the Brisbane Broncos last week, and they tired noticeably in the second half as a fresher Rovers side piled on the pressure in their first game in more than a fortnight.

But Wane did not blame his side's extra game, as he said: "It's tough but, if I got the chance again, I'd jump at it.

"Coming to a tough place like this, you have to be at your best.

"We were a little bit dumb with the ball but, from the scraps we got, we scored tries. It's simple - if you keep hold of the ball you score tries. In the final quarter we completed at 22 per cent.

"It's disappointing but I was very pleased with the effort. They showed some character backing up from last week and we looked smart when we put our plays on.

"We helped them by giving penalties away but I thought with the effort we put in, we should have got something out of the game."

Snowball effect

Hull KR coach Chris Chester was delighted with the spirit his side showed, claiming victory from 20-6 down when Kieran Dixon scored his first try for the club with eight minutes remaining.

"We've been questioned after the first couple of games but one thing you can't question is our team spirit," he said after their first win over Wigan in six years, also their first of the 2015 season.

"We tried to put them off their game. We weren't going to lie down and we said before the game we've got to stick up for our team-mates and we did.

"At 20-6, I was still very positive. I felt we were still in with a chance and, once we got that try, it had a snowball effect. I thought we were dominant in the second half. We are still a long way off but there's something to work on."
