Wakefield's derby with Leeds on Sunday has been postponed - the second time the Super League clash has fallen victim to the weather in 48 hours.

The match had initially been due to take place on Friday night but heavy snow forced it to be put back to Sunday afternoon.

The stadium was inspected again on Sunday morning and it was judged to still be unsafe for spectators.

A statement on the Leeds website: "Despite an outstanding effort by a team of volunteers to clear the pitch at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium, unfortunately the conditions around the ground have been deemed to be too unsafe for spectators.

"There is no available date at present to reschedule the game, however we will be in discussions with Wakefield to arrange a convenient date at a later point in the season.

"If you purchased your ticket for the game from the Rhinos ticket office and can not make the re-arranged date when announced please return your ticket to us beforehand for a full refund."

On Saturday the weather led to the World Cup qualifier between Northern Ireland and Russia in Belfast being postponed for a second time, while 10 matches across Leagues One and Two were also put back to later dates.

Five matches in the Scottish Irn-Bru Second and Third Divisions were called off, as were race meetings at Doncaster and Newbury.
