Warrington forward Ben Currie has been given a two-match ban for making deliberate physical contact with a match official.

The second rower was seen pushing referee Richard Silverwood in the back during the club's 34-24 Ladbrokes Challenge Cup quarter-final win over Leigh on Saturday.

Currie, who has missed just one game all season, was cited by the Rugby Football League's match review panel and submitted an early-guilty plea to the grade C charge, which rules him out of Warrington's home game against Wigan on Thursday.

Coach Tony Smith admitted the club could not complain at the level of Currie's punishment.

"It wasn't defendable," Smith told a news conference at Haydock Park to promote Friday's Rugby at the Races meeting.

"There is no way in the world it was malicious but he did touch the ref and you can't do that. I don't think he even knew he had done it and he was shocked when he saw it afterwards."
