The Rugby Football League has charged five players with misconduct after the Match Review Panel reviewed footage from Magic Weekend.

Josh Griffin of Salford Red Devils, Joel Moon of Leeds Rhinos, Huddersfield Giants duo Aaron Murphy and Scott Grix, and Remi Casty of Catalans Dragons are the players charged following the St James’ Park event.

Grix, Murphy and Casty have until 11.00am on Tuesday to submit early guilty pleas, but Griffin and Moon do not have that option and will appear before an independent disciplinary tribunal later in the evening.

A statement from the RFL read: “Five players have been charged with offences committed in First Utility Super League Round 16 fixtures staged at St James’ Park, Newcastle, on the weekend of May 30 and 31.

“Josh Griffin of Salford Red Devils has been charged with Grade C punching on Widnes Vikings player Willie Isa in the 42nd minute.

“Joel Moon of Leeds Rhinos has been charged with making Grade C dangerous contact on Wigan Warriors winger Josh Charnley in the 30th minute.

“Aaron Murphy of Huddersfield Giants has been charged with Grade C striking with the shoulder on Catalans Dragons player Willie Tonga in the 17th minute.

“Huddersfield player Scott Grix has been charged with Grade B striking with the shoulder on Morgan Escare in the seventh minute of the same fixture.

“Remi Casty of Catalans Dragons has been charged with making a Grade C dangerous throw on Eorl Crabtree in the 77th minute of the same fixture.

“All five were charged after the incidents were viewed by the RFL Match Review Panel, which also issued a formal caution to Jamie Peacock of Leeds Rhinos for raising his knees in a 67th-minute tackle by John Bateman of Wigan Warriors."
