Super League's bottom club Wakefield have announced that prop Lopini Paea has left them with immediate effect and is to return to Australia.

The 31-year-old Tongan international was in the Wildcats team that lost to Leigh in the Challenge Cup last weekend but was not selected for Sunday's league game against Widnes, which the Wildcats lost 30-18.

Wakefield chairman Michael Carter said: 'We wish Lopini all the best for his new challenge in Australia.

"We hope he and his family enjoyed their time at Trinity. We now have a half quota spot available and are looking to find a replacement in the near future."

Paea, whose younger brother announced last week that he was leaving Hull at the end of the year to return to the NRL, joined Wakefield from Catalans Dragons on a 12-month contract at the start of the season.

The former Sydney Roosters forward made only five substitute appearances for the west Yorkshire club.
