Hull KR's plans for the 2015 Super League season have been dealt a blow with the news that Neville Costigan will not be returning to the club next year.

The loose forward joined the Robins from Newcastle Knights last year and appeared in all bar three of their 27 league matches.

However Costigan - who captained Papua New Guinea at the 2013 World Cup, has cited "personal reasons" for his decision to remain in Australia, rather than complete the second year of his contract with Rovers.

"Hull Kingston Rovers can confirm that Neville Costigan has resigned from his contract with the club and will remain in Australia for personal reasons," a statement on the club's website said.

"Whilst the club are understandably disappointed with the timing of the decision by Neville not to return for the 2015 season, every effort will now be made to find a suitable replacement in the forwards for Super League XX."

Hull KR head coach Chris Chester will now begin the search for a replacement for Costigan, a player who featured six times for Queensland in State of Origin and also won the NRL Grand Final with St. George Illawarra Dragons in 2010.

The Rovers boss has already been busy rebuilding his squad, with 11 players having left Craven Park. They have snapped up nine new faces, amongst them Australian half-back duo Albert Kelly and Maurice Blair.
