Former England captain Jamie Peacock has been named the Rugby League Writers and Broadcasters Association player of the year for 2014.

The Leeds Rhinos prop forward topped the poll of members to claim the award for the first time and will also become the first recipient of the Raymond Fletcher Trophy, awarded in memory of the journalist and historian who passed away 12 months ago.

Peacock, who overcame opposition from Castleford pair Daryl Clark and Michael Shenton and Warrington prop Chris Hill, will be presented with his award at the association's annual dinner on November 11.

The 36-year-old, who has won a record seven Super League Grand Finals, signed a new two-year contract with Leeds Rhinos last March.
