Catalan Dragons have appointed Cyrille Gossard as the new coach of their reserve team Saint-Esteve XIII Catalan, who play in the French Elite Championship.

Gossard, 34, who made 84 Super League appearances between 2006 and 2012, succeeds Englishman Steve Deakin, who was granted a release from his contract to enable him return home for family reasons.

Gossard, who was Deakin's assistant, told the club’s official website: "My main goal, as Steve Deakin did during the last four seasons, will be to provide players to the Super League squad.

“I am very happy to be work with Benoit Albert, with whom I worked last season already, and Maxime Guasch. We will be a very young staff at the head of a staff also young and I am eager to start the season with this group.

“I am very satisfied with the preparation done during the offseason and the efforts of the players. We worked hard for several weeks and I hope that soon we will be rewarded this weekend for our first game Lezignan.”
