Super League: Salford Red Devils recruit Josh Griffin from Batley Bulldogs

Salford Red Devils’ mid-season recruitment drive has continued with the arrival of centre Josh Griffin from Championship side Batley Bulldogs.

Griffin, the younger brother of Red Devils prop Darrell, made his Super League debut for Wakefield against Salford in 2008 before moving to Huddersfield Giants without playing another game.

The 24-year-old returned to Wakefield in 2011 and made a further 20 first-team appearances before joining Castleford Tigers the next year.

Following a brief foray into rugby union with Leeds Carnegie, Griffin returned to his favoured code with Batley earlier this season and could now make his debut for Salford against former club Castleford on Saturday.

Griffin has been training with Salford for the past month and, after impressing coach Iestyn Harris, has been awarded a contract that runs until the end of the season.

Griffin is the Red Devils' owner Marwan Koukash's third recruit from Batley following the capture of threequarters Jason Walton and Greg Johnson at the end of last season.

Meanwhile, the club this week had already announced the addition of Mason Caton-Brown from London Broncos.

The winger began training with the Red Devils this week and is pencilled in to make his debut against Hull at the AJ Bell Stadium on July 12, alongside New Zealand full-back Kevin Locke, who the club say has now received his visa.
