Francis Cummins: Handed Sam Bates a chance at The Provident Stadium
Bradford Bulls teenager Sam Bates wants to earn a full-time contract with the Super League side after experiencing a thrilling taste of first-team action.
Bates made his debut last month and on Sunday appeared from the bench as the Bulls beat Warrington Wolves 34-28 to climb off the foot of the table.
Front-rower Bates, 18, now wants to do all he can to push Francis Cummins' side up the table and earn a full-time deal at The Provident Stadium.
He told the club's official website: "I really want to earn a full-time contract here. Since Marc Green has come in and the ownership issues have been resolved, the atmosphere surrounding the club has been so much better.
"I want to play in as many games as possible this year and keep training hard. I want to fight with the rest of the lads to ensure the Bulls retain their Super League status.
"I believe I can progress here as a player and now we have put together a string of victories, things are really looking up.
"I would love to go on and have a big season next year."
"I really want to earn a full-time contract here. Since Marc Green has come in and the ownership issues have been resolved, the atmosphere surrounding the club has been so much better."
Bates admitted the side have had a bad spell but, following a few good performances, he believes there is every reason to be positive going forward.
"The team has really pulled together despite the adversity it has faced. The mood in camp is great at this is a fantastic place to be," he added.
"We believe we can overcome anyone, on our day.
"These are exciting times and everyone is relishing the prospect of St Helens on Sunday.
"We were the underdogs last weekend and we will be the underdogs, once again, this weekend.
"But we are not the type of team to let that faze us. There are plenty of reasons to be optimistic."
