Rangi Chase insists the Salford squad are gelling well just in time for the new Super League season, despite the fact that 14 new players joined the club in the close-season.

The talented half-back signed for Dr Marwan Koukash's ambitious Red Devils from Castleford Tigers, along with the likes of Gareth Hock, Harrison Hansen, Adrian Morley and Tim Smith.

Expectations are now considerably higher at the Greater Manchester club, which finished bottom following a turbulent 2013.

However, Brian Noble's side, led by local hero Morley, have been tipped to challenge for honours this year, not least by Sky Sports expert Phil Clarke.

And Chase sees no reason why they can't compete with the very best, telling Sky Sports: "We're all here to prove a point. We're all here for the right reasons and saying that we're coming along beautifully as a group.

"We're pretty tight considering how long we've been together, so we just want to get out there and get some games under our belt."

With talk of the Red Devils reaching at the very least the play-offs this term, Chase added: "Anything is possible but I think that every team going into the season is aiming for the play-offs and we're no different.

"The team we have on paper is pretty decent so we've just got to put what we've been doing in practice into game situations."

The Red Devils kick off their Super League XIX campaign on February 16 at home to Wakefield.
