Ryan Hall: Hoping for an improved season in 2014

Winger Ryan Hall is hoping for an improved 2014 Super League campaign after the Leeds Rhinos finished without a trophy last season.

The England international did enough to win a place in Steve McNamara's squad for the World Cup, but on the domestic scene he managed just 16 tries last term - his lowest return since 2008.

Hall was outscored by the likes of centres Joel Moon and Kallum Watkins and competition for places will be more intense this time around following the acquisition of Tom Briscoe from Hull FC.

"For Leeds this year I just want to do my job and hopefully - with the squad we've got now - play every week."

The 26-year-old is aiming to play every week despite head coach Brian McDermott bringing in Briscoe, stating there will be some in the Rhinos squad who will be left disappointed.

"I am always looking to improve on anything I do, even if I have a storming season," Hall told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"Talking tries it wasn't the best, but overall I got picked for England again so I couldn't have been that bad.

"Hopefully I retain my place in the England squad at the end of the year and do my best for the team, because wing has developed into a key position now.

"We have got three international wingers. I don't know what the squad rotation will be or what the system is this year, but I'm sure there'll be some disappointment for people who aren't playing."

On Briscoe's arrival Hall added: "It will be nice to have that competition. That's what the squad needs.

"Having good players vying for the same spot brings the best out of them and it's good to be in and around that environment."
