Brian McDermott: Could loan out Leeds Rhinos players in the coming season
Head coach Brian McDermott has confirmed Leeds Rhinos could loan out some of their players in the coming season in a bid to help them gain first-team experience.
McDermott has a vastly-experienced squad to select from ahead of the new Super League campaign meaning some of their up-and-coming talent might not feature if everyone is fit.
London Broncos are one team looking to strengthen after their future was secured following a ground-share deal with Barnet FC. Rhinos winger Ben Jones-Bishop has previously spent a season with the Broncos.
"If you look at players such as Liam Sutcliffe and Alex Foster and the way they played last year, I am not going to rule them out at this stage by saying 'you are on a season-long loan somewhere else'."
Wakefield Wildcats are also looking to bolster their ranks and have been linked a season-long loan for Leeds' Germany international centre Jimmy Keinhorst.
Liam Sutcliffe enjoyed a breakthrough season last time around along with youngster Alex Foster but McDermott has not decided on the exact make-up of his squad for next season.
"Every man who has been training with us has a chance of playing first team," McDermott told the Yorkshire Evening Post.
"If you look at players such as Liam Sutcliffe and Alex Foster and the way they played last year, I am not going to rule them out at this stage by saying 'you are on a season-long loan somewhere else'.
"We will get past Boxing Day and get back into training and we'll have a look and review things and assess where everybody's at. But in principle we would be prepared to loan players out.
"It works both ways. It certainly works for the player, because if they can get Super League experience it is great for them. And obviously it helps the club as well."
