Castleford Tigers have confirmed half-back Ben Johnston is set to join Championship club Halifax RLFC.

The 21-year-old had a year left on his Tigers deal, but the Super League club have granted him permission to speak with Halifax.

Castleford head coach Darryl Powell has allowed him to move on with Johnston finding first-team opportunities hard to come by.

"We feel that this is a good opportunity for Ben to advance his rugby career having found it tough to break through at Castleford," Powell told the club's official website.

"Halifax are a top Championship club who will give Ben the chance to cement himself as a senior player in the division.

"Everyone at Castleford Tigers wish him all the best for the future."

Johnston had a loan spell with the Dewsbury Rams earlier in the season while he finished the current campaign on-loan with the York City Knights.
