Matthew Bowen: Will join Wigan for 2014 Super League season
Wigan have signed Australian full-back Matthew Bowen as a direct replacement for the outgoing Sam Tomkins.
The Super League club confirmed on Monday that Tomkins would join New Zealand Warriors at the end of the season after agreeing a world record transfer fee with the NRL side.
But the Warriors have already tried to fill the gap left by his departure by recruiting Bowen from North Queensland Cowboys.
The 31-year-old will join on a one-year contract for the 2014 season, with the deal also containing an option for the following campaign.
"Matty Bowen is an excellent signing for us; his qualities as a top full-back are recognised worldwide," Wigan coach Shaun Wane told the club's official website.
"His defensive game is outstanding and his ability to open up any opposition in attack with his skill and flair are second to none.
"It is fantastic that we have been able to sign Matty and after speaking to him it is clear he has the hunger and desire to continue his success with us here at Wigan."
Bowen has played his entire senior career to date with the Cowboys, scoring 130 tries in 270 appearances.
