St Helens have secured the services of Kyle Amor on a four-year deal from the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats for £50,000.

The Wildcats have been forced to sell recently with Tim Smith rivals Salford Red Devils due to a £400,000 shortfall in the club's books.

Irish international Amor, formerly of the Leeds Rhinos, has nine tries from 76 Super League appearances.

"Kyle is a young British prop forward who is already one of the best front rowers in Super League."

Saints head coach Nathan Brown is delighted to have landed the 26-year-old, describing him as one of the best front rowers in the league.

Best

"Kyle is a young British prop forward who is already one of the best front rowers in Super League," Brown told the club's official website.

"He will add strength, size and dynamism to our pack and is a great long term recruit for the club.

Chairman Eamonn McManus added: "There was understandably a lot of competitive interest in Kyle and we are delighted to have secured him on a long term deal.

"He is another key addition to the squad which we are putting together for next season and beyond. There are many reasons to be excited and confident about the future."

No choice

Wakefield chairman Michael Carter insists the club were left with little choice but to sell after Amor made it clear he would not be signing fresh terms.

"Kyle came to me and let me know that he would like to leave the club and that he wouldn't sign a new contract when it was due to expire at the end of next season," Carter told Wakefield's official website.

"We were left with the option of seeing him leave at the end of next season for nothing, or securing a transfer fee for a player that was much sought after. On that basis, and with Kyle's desire to leave, it was a straightforward decision.

"Kyle has been fantastic for us in the last few seasons, and along with the coaching staff has got his game to a level where top clubs wanted him in their squad. We wish Kyle all the best and thank him for his efforts with the club."
