St Helens have confirmed that on-loan half-back Gareth O'Brien has returned to parent club the Warrington Wolves.
The promising 21-year-old playmaker initially joined Saints on a one-month loan before the clubs agreed for him to remain at Langtree Park on a weekly basis.
While the youngster scored 50 points from his seven games with St Helens his playing time has been hampered by injury.
O'Brien was forced out of action after being caught by Wigan's Scott Taylor recently and on his return he was stretchered off against the Catalan Dragons following a high challenge by Zeb Taia.
After being ruled out of Sunday's clash against Wakefield and being unable to face part club Warrington the week later the loan has come to a natural conclusion.
"Saints would like to place on record their thanks to Gareth O'Brien as well as Tony Smith and Warrington," read a statement on the club's official website.
"The loan benefitted both parties at a time when Saints had a number of players out injured."
