Francis Meli: Latest addition to the Salford City Reds squad
Salford City Reds have confirmed the signing of Francis Meli from St Helens on a one-year deal for the 2014 season.
The winger, who has represented New Zealand and Samoa, has been with Saints since 2006 and has scored 376 points in his 141 games.
He becomes the latest addition to an exciting squad being built by Reds owner Marwan Koukash, when he expects a great deal of improvement on this season's performances - they currently sit 13th, one point off bottom placed London Broncos.
Salford recently added Adrian Morley to their squad and Koukash feels their experience will be vital in 2014.
"Successful teams need to have experienced players in their ranks and we are delighted Francis is joining us," Koukash told the Manchester Evening News.
"I believe it is another good signing. Meli has been a very consistent performer in Super League. Players like this can bring so much to the squad and the dressing room environment.
"He had a very impressive game against Salford the other week and we are getting another very good professional."
Koukash on Meli
"He had a very impressive game against Salford the other week and we are getting another very good professional. I said the same thing about Adrian Morley. These men can greatly influence other members of the squad.
"I would also like to place on record my thanks to their current clubs for not standing in the way of them moving to Salford.
"Firstly to Simon Moran at Warrington for allowing Adrian the chance to fulfil a lifelong ambition of playing for Salford, and my thanks also go to Eamonn McManus at Saints for being very fair with Francis. I am sure both players will greatly contribute at Salford next year.
"I appreciate what their clubs have done. This will be a big new challenge for Adrian and Francis."
